Tweens & Teens are sort of the forgotten age when it comes to photography.  Many times we make sure we photograph the younger ages very regularly, and then we simply count on school and sports pictures to document our child's lives between Kindergarten and 11th grade.  The next age that we generally make sure to document thoroughly is senior year.

Although those school pictures give us documentation of exactly what our child LOOKS like in Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 6th grade and so on...., they do ZERO to tell us about our child's personality, loves, quirks, and interests at all of these ages and milestones.  I don't know about your children, but mine have changed in their looks and interests quite a bit throughout the years.  They are DRASTICALLY different from those last professional portraits that might have been taken as a 3 or 4 year old, and their senior portraits.  I hate the thought of so many milestones and memories never being documented.

Not only do I think it's important to document their lives, I also believe that a one of a kind custom portrait session can have life altering affects on a young persons self-esteem and confidence.  Body image issues are starting at younger and younger ages these days.  It's frightening really.  I've seen it time and time again in my 9 years as a portrait photographer, the shocked look on a teen girls face when she sees a beautiful portrait of herself.  I've seen the tears roll down her cheek as she watches her reveal video.

For these reasons, and many more, I have launched a brand new line of Billie Mitchell Photography.  My brand new 828eight line of sessions.  The "Free to be ME!" sessions.  This line is meant for 10 year olds through 16 year olds.  At the bare minimum, I encourage you have your child professionally photographed at the following ages.  I promise you won't regret having beautiful portraits of your child at these older ages, just like you had when they were teeny tiny!

10 years old - When they hit double digits!

13 years old - When they officially become a teenager!

16 years old - To celebrate their Sweet 16 and their final major milestone before senior year!

These are simply age suggestions.  I obviously would love to photograph them each and every year.  But documenting at least these 3 milestones, and then their senior year, would be amazing!
