Craving the Simple Life

I'm really craving simplicity lately.  Really this entire year I've been thinking about it.  It was something I listed as a goal at the beginning of the year. I did some little things to acquire some simplicity early in the year, but then I haven't done much about it lately.

I've been receiving lots of messages lately about our studio space.  Lots of you have noticed that we are moving out of it. When the lease renewal came up a couple of months ago, I prayed about whether it was still the right thing for us.  I felt called to think about whether the studio space was still necessary. Was it still serving the purpose that it did for me almost 3 years ago when we first acquired it?  Was it time to reevaluate our needs for a studio space?

Truth is, several things have changed since we first moved in.  Our life looks a lot different today than it did almost 3 years ago.  The future plans we had are getting closer. 2018 has had a lot of unexpected events that change my mindset around the studio space.

Along with working towards more simplicity, I’m also remembering to acknowledge different seasons of life.  And just because something was right for our lives at one point, doesn’t mean it always has to be right. Or that it can never change.  The studio space is one of those things. It was absolutely perfect for us when we rented it almost 3 years ago. It’s served a beautiful purpose for our business and many people who we’ve had the honor of serving in that space.  But now it feels like it’s served its purpose, and it’s time to move on to the next phase, or season, of our life and business.

Other areas of simplicity I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is just around STUFF.  All the stuff we have. Or the stuff we desire to have. Everywhere you turn, someone is trying to sell you something or is making you feel like you need something else to make you happy, or to keep up with the Joneses.  One more inspirational t-shirt, another beautiful home decor item, better cars, another name brand handbag, more toys, clothes, bigger houses, another pair of shoes, fancy vacations, etc… But what do all these things cause in our lives?  More joy? Not necessarily. In my mind, they cause more stress because it’s more things to take care of. More things to pay for. More things to clutter up our space which in turn clutters up our mind. More things to have insurance on.  More things to clean. I don’t know about you, but none of those things bring me joy.

Truth is, it’s challenging to live a simple life in today’s society.  It goes against the norm society has set for us. If you follow Dave Ramsey you’ve heard him say,

“We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.”

“If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.”

I love both of these quotes. Really puts things into perspective.

I have so many more thoughts on living a more simplified life, but I’ll share them on another day.  This post is already getting kind of long. I just wanted to share my thoughts because this has been weighing on my mind a lot lately.

Do you crave a more simple life?  What THINGS suck you in every time?  You can’t resist. Do you ever feel like you are just trying to keep up with the Joneses?  I personally don’t feel like I’m trying to keep up with anyone else, I just find myself sucked into consumerism.  Buying things I don’t really NEED.  Tell me below about your STUFF struggles.   Please tell me I'm not alone.  ♥
